Giorgio Armani was born in the town of Picenza in Northern Italy. He grew up with hopes of becoming a doctor. After two years of medical school, he realized he couldn't bear the sight of blood and thankfully his ambition turned toward a career in design.

He began as a buyer for Milan’s largest department boutique, La Rinascente, and then spent six years working as an assistant designer for Cerruti. After working as a freelance designer for a short time, he began designing under his own name in 1974.

All Emporio Armani Collection designs originate from Italy from Armani’s offices with Mr. Armani directly involved with the design and approval of new collections.
